The game's arcade mode allows players to control any of the game's characters and face six opponents in time trial matches. Unlike previous installments, not every character is playable in Story Mode. In Story Mode, players take control of the game's protagonist Patroklos and various supporting characters, guiding him through a series of battles divided into 20 episodes. The game features a variety of gameplay modes. The game features a tweaked "Critical Edge" system, allowing players to fill up a meter and unleash powerful special attacks. Players use high and low vertical and horizontal attacks to damage opposing player characters and can block incoming attacks or parry enemies' moves to gain a tactical advantage. Like the previous games in the series, Soulcalibur V is a weapon-based fighting game. ![]() ![]() Gameplay A screenshot from a fight between Algol and Mitsurugi The game received positive reviews, in which it was praised for its gameplay, atmosphere and character creation, but was criticized for the removal of fan favorite characters and for its story mode. It is the last original Soul series timeline game. The sixth main installment in Namco's Soulcalibur series of fighting games, Soulcalibur V is the follow-up to Soulcalibur IV and retains the weapon-based combat that characterizes the series but follows a new character, Patroklos, who aims to rid his sister of a curse brought upon her by an ancient weapon. If you really really miss SCII go out and get a used PS2/Xbox/GC version of it for the fraction of the cost Namco is charging for this, unless they fix the terrible online mode and add the Japanese language track it is simply impossible to recommend spending 20USD on this.Soulcalibur V ( ソウルキャリバーV, Sōrukyaribā Faibu) is a fighting video game developed and released by Namco Bandai Games for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012. This is not just a problem for purists and nerds because the English voice "acting" is so horrid that it more or less ruins the game, literally all the characters sound ridicules or annoying at best.Īnother big problem most players are complaining about is the online mode, it has very few options, and de facto consist of endless random matches, if that wasn’t bad enough the lag is so terrible that it makes the game almost unplayable online, even the best matches have worse lag than the worst matches in Soul Calibut V, what the hell is Namco thinking!!!? They obviously have the technology so why dont they use it? Why do they dump a half finished product on us and charge 20USD for it? That being said, there are serious problems with this re-release:įirst, for some unfathomable reason Namco has decided to remove the option of using the Japanese voice overs instead of the English ones. The HD remastering also feels good enough. This is the original game just as it was, while it certainly feels dated (its 10 years old) and not quite comparable to newer instalments all the old 1 player modes as well as vs modes are there, the quest mode (Weapon Master) which pitches you up against computer controlled characters in all sort of situations is especially fun. As an avid SC fan I was looking forward to get my hands on SCII and play it online, unfortunately this version is sadly disappointing. ![]()
